"One of the finest Marvel IronMan story lines was the "Demon in a Bottle" story. It tells the storyplot of Tony Stark slowly descending to the oblivion that comes from drinking excessively and at all hours through the day. Here is really a brief run down of the plot:

Tony Stark is up to speed an aircraft when a military tank comes flying out at the plane and hits them, sending them hurtling into oblivion. Stark whips the Iron Man suit (that they conveniently carries inside a suitcase) and saves your day, bringing the tank and the plane down to a nearby military base. The people on the base tell Iron Man that Namor had thrown the tank because he was attempting to defend people of a small island from being evacuated. It turns out that the island has been used being a toxic waste dump and Iron Man confronts and fights Namor, before he realizes that the soldiers in question actually fit in with the Roxxon Oil Corporation, which has secretly been using the region as a mine for valuable mineral vibranium. Iron Man teams track of his nemesis to defeat the soldiers; however, before they could finish the job, the soldiers manage to set off a few explosives which destroy the region.

On the way home, Iron Man's suit malfunctions and the man starts to fly through the air uncontrollably, eventually crash landing. He finally makes his way home, inspects the suit and finds nothing wrong. Later, while foiling a robbery attempt at a casino, his suit malfunctions again and the man accidentally kills an ambassador. During this time, Stark's drinking increases significantly.

Furthering Stark's problems, the Avengers let him express to step down because the leader with the team, at least for the time being since he cannot appear to control his suit. He is eventually imprisoned and escapes, though the experience leaves him a broken man.

The Marvel IronMan story continues when he arrives home and begins binge drinking and lashing out at his butler, Edwin Jarvis. The next day, Jarvis resigns and Stark is left alone with all the bottle.

Continuing to drink to forget his problems, Stark is often a wreck. His friend Beth confronts him and warns him from the dangers of drinking and just how her husband had gotten totally hooked on drugs and in actual fact separated from her and in the end died of the overdose. He agrees to allow Beth help him and eventually gets back on his feet, first apologizing to his butler Jarvis and in the end to all others in his life also.

The story was a powerful one as it put here a super-hero in the light of each and every day life, that they are people too and so they too can make mistakes. The Marvel IronMan story is important and should be read by teenagers everywhere that can get an idea from the danger of drugs and alcoholism."
